Third Project – Steel
Ohio University – 2017
For our brazing project I wanted to replicate a research image to the best of my ability. Though in the beginning I was able to braze the base for the shoulder piece flat, the challenge with all the pieces afterwards was trying to secure them in place while I brazed them together. While I pinned and marked them on a dressform first, each curve for the chest and neck had to be correctly placed. When taping them didn’t work, I ended up using a combination of marks and notes on paper and metal both, and then using magnets, clamps, and weights to hold things together. I then used spray paint, acrylic paint and FEV to create a copper patina treatment.
