Cast Vase

Final Project – Casting and Molding

Ohio University – 2018

I decided to try and cast a hollow vase for my final project. Using one I pulled from stock, I blocked the mouth and used Oomoo 30 to create a solid mold that I then cut with a snap knife to release the original. Surrounding the mold with a cardboard tube and tape, I then roto-cast Smooth On’s Crystal Clear product in the mold for 30 minutes before leaving to completely set. I used the roto-caster to do the first 4 casts but none of them came out correctly. Finally I tried slush casting by hand with a quick-set resin, that was my first true success. Afterwards, I slush cast with the crystal clear which was also fairly successful. I used Encapso K to hold flowers in the final vase.
